You are being manipulated. Here’s how.

It is psychological law that whatever we desire to accomplish we must impress upon the subjective or subconscious mind.--Orison Swett Marden

Let’s get something straight right up front. I love technology. Not only for how easy it makes my life, but mainly for how it can be used to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Since the birth of Christ, nothing has given us a bigger platform to share the love of Jesus than the Internet. Nothing.

However, saying something is one thing. Getting heard is another. And the ones with the power are the ones who manipulate what is seen and heard. Search engine algorithms can be designed to filter out anything pertaining to Christ. Money and the prince of the air think they’re in control. (But seriously, we know Who really is, right?)

It is psychological law that whatever we desire to accomplish we must impress upon the subjective or subconscious mind.--Orison Swett Marden (1)

You think you have a plethora of choices? You do. But not really. Those who own the algorithms are the ones who decide what your choices really are. Truth has never been more relative than it is today. If people believe what comes up first when they’re doing a search, (on Google, Siri, Bing, etc.) are they living in reality? Or the reality that the search engine created?

eyes are useless when the mind is blind.--unknown

Not only do search engines and Amazon filter what’s seen at the top of a search, so do advertisers. Add to that the government accessing your search stats and freedom flies out the window only to be captured and shackled.

Oh, oh, oh, and what about when you’re browsing for say,  a pair of shoes, and you’re reading the news on another site and the ad for the shoes shows up. How intellectually free are you? I mean, really?

Is this freedom or manipulation?

ad

This ad popped up on my Facebook and tumblr dashboard after I’d checked out a clearance sale on HSN.com.

Amazon manipulates its customers. You might not think so, but take a gander at this post on the Hoosier Ink blog by Joe Allison:

Amazon Restricts Promotion of Books with “Religious or Spiritual Content”

Amazon-logoI mean, c’mon, we all know it happens, but do we remember when we’re searching for things, that our choices are limited to what those in charge want us to see and find? Or are we lulled into intellectual laziness and put discernment on the back burner?

Time — it’s not what you think!

Today I’m blogging on my teaching portfolio website. Please check it out and let me know what you think!

I have some happy news to share there.

Yes, I have a life outside of writing. Believe it or not. I’d like to think it makes me a better writer. Mostly, though, I think it makes me tired.

That one time when I had an actual whole week to do nothing but write, I found it grueling. It was just plain hard. But I did enjoy it. Parkinson’s Law is true — work expands to fill the time available for its completion. And speaking of time, did you know that it’s a physical property? I’m fascinated with this concept. Here’s a video that explains it better than I can.

What’s your favorite way to spend time?

Are you still here?

rapture

Congratulations!

I think.

I mean, if you’re reading this right now, it means you’re still here and the world hasn’t come to an end. Or, if the rapture has occurred, and you’re still here, then it’s not congratulations that’s in order, but some advice on how to make it through tribulation.

The safest place

Today is the first day of autumn. It’s also a day that many have predicted will either usher in disastrous change for the world, the tribulation, or the rapture.

Many believe the return of Messiah is imminent, including a prominent Jewish Rabbi who is urging all Jews to come home to Israel. He believes that at the end of the sabbatical year the Messiah will return. The end of that year was September 12, 2015. So far, I haven’t seen Messiah, but expecting Him to come any second is how we’re supposed to live. I have eagerly awaited His return since I was a small child.

Sept. 22-23 is Yom Kippur., or Day of Atonement. It is also the beginning of the Year of Jubilees. Some find it ironic that the Pope is coming on the holiest holiday of the Jewish people because they won’t be able to participate in the arrival. They also find it a tad coincidental.

Others believe that today marks the beginning of tribulation based upon calculations of Daniel’s 70th week.

Countless books have been written about September 2015.

Even Isaac Newton wrote about Messianic predictions surrounding September 23, 2015.

CERN was also supposed to have a major colliding event today, but all references to it have been removed from their website. Now they claim that the machine has been powering up since June 15 and nothing unusual is happening today. They’ve even removed the CERN calendar that used to be available. Coincidence? Is there something to hide? (If you don’t know about CERN, you can learn about it and science’s search for the God Particle here and here.) If you want to get even more freaked out, just type “CERN September 23, 2015” into the google search engine. Go on. I dare you. Just set aside about a year to read it all.

Now, if that’s not enough to freak you out, check out the SESAME project. Go ahead. I’ll wait.

sesame (n.)Look up sesame at Dictionary.comearly 15c., probably from Middle French sisame and directly from Latin sesamum (nominative sesama), from Greek sesamon (Doric sasamon) “seed or fruit of the sesame plant,” a very early borrowing via Phoenician from Late Babylonian *shawash-shammu (compare Assyrian shamash-shammu “sesame,” literally “oil-seed”). First as a magic password in 1785 translation of Galland’s “Mille et une nuits,” where it opens the door of the thieves’ den in “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.” Phraseopen sesame current since about 1826. Just asking here, but what portals, exactly, are they trying to open?

The Pope has a lot of engagements in the United States in the next few days including addressing the United States Congress. It is the first time in history that the Pope has ever done so. On Friday he’s addressing the United Nations. Interesting? I think so. There will also be an inter-faith service at the 9/11 museum on Friday. Hmm.

September 27 – October 5 is the Feast of Tabernacles. On the 28th is the 4th blood moon of the recent tetrad.  If you haven’t been studying the blood moons at all, this website will get you up to speed. I’m fascinated!

Some people have linked the budding of the fig tree to the birth of Israel. And 2015 marks 67 years since its birth. In Matthew 24:32, Jesus says this:

“Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.”

Muslim clerics are predicting the return of their Mahdi in September 2015. An old prophecy written by the Islamic prophet Ali Bin Iben Abi Talib says that just before the coming of the Mahdi, a tall black man will rise up to take command of the West and he will command the most powerful army on earth. Let’s see…tall…black…West…Obama?

“The Messenger of Allah [sallallahu ‘alayhi wa-sallam] informed the Companions of everything that would occur until the Day of Resurrection,” the website reports.

“Based on our numerical analysis of the Quran and Hadith, the official beginning of the End of Time and the coming of the Imam Mahdi will most likely be in 2015 (or 2016) and Jesus Christ (p) will come down from Heaven to Earth in 2022, in-sha Allah (if Allah is willing).”  (Read more.)

Whatever is going to happen, as I said before, the best place to be is in the center of God’s will. Could this be the beginning of earth pains? Will the dollar collapse? Will there be a global currency? I don’t know. I only know how to prepare spiritually. I have limited resources to prepare physically.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee- be not dismayed; for I am thy God- I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.Isaiah 41-10

One thing’s for sure, we need to be awake, watching and prayerful. We must know the heartbeat of God so that we won’t be tricked. False Messiah’s will come. And God has called His Children to know the difference and share the Truth with others.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”  Ephesians 6:12.

The world is going to end in September 2015

We're running out of time

Did you hear? The world is going to end in September.

Or something like that.

Apparently, the Illuminati has been sending us subliminal messages since way back via movies.

Some folks think Jesus is going to return during Rosh Hashana.

Others think the Illuminati is going to put us (Christians?) in internment camps.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of

Honestly, I don’t know if all these things will come to pass. I’m not God. I do know I sense a change coming. I sense that the United States has crossed the line. The dam has burst and there’s no containing the malevolent destruction that spews forth.

The Bible is clear about the times we live in:

You may as well know this too, Timothy, that in the last days it is going to be very difficult to be a Christian.  For people will love only themselves and their money; they will be proud and boastful, sneering at God, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful to them, and thoroughly bad.  They will be hardheaded and never give in to others; they will be constant liars and troublemakers and will think nothing of immorality. They will be rough and cruel, and sneer at those who try to be good. They will betray their friends; they will be hotheaded, puffed up with pride, and prefer good times to worshiping God. They will go to church, yes, but they won’t really believe anything they hear. Don’t be taken in by people like that.

2 Timothy 3:1-5, TLB

Evil Days

So what’s a Christian to do in such perilous times?

I believe I’m to trust God. Trust Him and not give in to fear. Trust Him and believe that no matter what, He’ll take care of me.

If there are forces out there who want to destroy me because I’m a Christian, I still win, because the King of Kings and Lord of Lords is my Savior. To die is to be in His Wonderful Presence at last. If I suffer, I believe He will give me the grace to endure.

But when I am afraid, I will put my

My favorite Psalm when I get to feeling insecure about the future is Psalm 91. I’ve memorized it. If you haven’t, I encourage you to memorize it and pray it as we enter into this new phase of worshiping Jesus in an America that isn’t so free anymore.

If you’d like, print the picture below and hang it up or carry it with you to give you comfort. Memorize it, and then let me know you did!

Ruminations on the “F” word

fbombWhen I was growing up the F word was the one forbidden word that no cussing heathen ever said in the presence of a lady. And a lady certainly never used such language.

Elegant-lady-with-a-bouquet-of-roses

Today, F bombs are used as casually by the youthful masses as toothpaste. Their vocabularies have become so limited that it’s the most accessible word on the tips of their tongues. In casual day to day conversation it can be heard a myriad of times. Movies, music and other media have certainly contributed to this.

3dradio_20130519-2TheMovies

Call me old-fashioned, but I still find it offensive. The only word I find more offensive is taking the Lord’s Name in vain.

I’m not better than someone who uses the F word or the Lord’s Name as a curse, but I do hope I never become so accustomed to such language that I don’t cringe the way I do now when I hear it. I stray from movies that use those words because they cause a visceral reaction in my gut. I. Do. Not. Like. Them. Call me an old fuddy-duddy but that’s where I am on the matter.

499px-Grant_DeVolson_Wood_-_American_Gothic

It occurred to me that people who use the F word may not realize there are other options. So I’m writing this post to solve that problem. I propose that society replace the current F word with the following:

“What the floccinaucinihilipilification were you thinking?” (floccinaucinihilipilification: setting at little or no value ).

I mean, isn’t that a lot more impressive? It has 28 letters! And surely our counterparts would be dazzled. Their word has only 4  measly characters!

Untitled design-7Okay, so maybe the meaning isn’t all that great. How about this one then:

“Oh, fadoodle!” (fadoodle: nonsense). This one may not appeal to the younger masses because it sounds exactly like something an old granny like me would say. I like it. I’m going to adopt it.

Let’s consider these instead:

“Fiddle-faddle!” (An oldie but goodie; means trifling talk. It’s also some really great popcorn! My favorite is butter toffee. What’s yours?)

fiddlefaddle

“Fiddlededee!” (Scarlet O’Hara used this. If it’s good enough for her, it’s good enough for me. Means nonsense.)

gone-with-the-wind1

“Flapdoodle!” (Means gross flattery; nonsense.)

“Flexiloquent!” (Speaking ambiguously or using words of doubtful meaning. This one is rather appropriate, I think.)

“Futtock!” (This one sounds way too similar to the offensive word. Besides, it means the rib of a ship, and in context of swearing would be a little silly.)

new-ribs

As for me, I’m sticking with floccinaucinihilipilification ?/fläks??nôs??n??hil??pil?fi?k?SH?n/. The next time one of my younger counterparts uses their F word, I’m going to use mine. By the time I get done saying it, they’ll nod off.

And my ears will be singed no more.

Balderdash:

“First and foremost, I want the American people to know that our experts, here at the CDC and across our government, agree that the chances of an Ebola outbreak here in the United States are extremely low.” –President B. H. Obama

Bunk:

“‘…there’s all the difference in the world between the U.S. and parts of Africa where Ebola is spreading. The United States has a strong health care system and public health professionals who will make sure this case does not threaten our communities,’” said CDC Director, Dr. Tom Frieden, M.D., M.P.H. ‘While it is not impossible that there could be additional cases associated with this patient in the coming weeks, I have no doubt that we will contain this.'”

Ballyhoo:

ebola-facts

Baloney:

“Ebola is not spread through the air like the flu…You cannot get it through casual contact like sitting next to someone one a bus. You cannot get it from another person until they start showing symptoms of the disease, like fever.” — B.H. Obama

Bosh:

“…the most common way you can get Ebola is by touching the body fluids of someone who is sick or has died from it, like their sweat, saliva or blood, or through a contaminated item like a needle.” — B.H. Obama

As soon as I heard about the ebola outbreak, my blood ran cold. Ebola terrifies me. It has terrified me since 1994 when I read the book, Hot Zone, by Richard Preston. Death by ebola is hideous and horrible. And I don’t appreciate my government treating it like the chicken pox.

The_Hot_Zone_(cover)Of course we don’t want the public to panic, but at what cost?

Here’s what you should know: studies have shown this particular strain of virus is transferred in the air. You can get it by sitting by someone on the bus. You can get it by being in the presence of those infected.

Ebola1

My heart goes out to the healthcare workers here and elsewhere in the world who have been infected. I pray for them. I urge you to join me in those prayers. And I also pray for those workers involved in caring for the victims. God bless them. It has to be exhausting and frightening.  I pray for the families of the infected. What horror they must be experiencing. How overwhelmed everyone must be. My heart breaks for the pain in this world.

Bottom Line (as opposed to Baloney, Balderdash, Bunk, Ballyhoo and Bosh), we have hope:

Psalm 91 King James Version (KJV)

91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Our only hope is in Christ. Hazmat suits may not protect us, but God’s supernatural hedge of protection can. And should we become ill, He will give us the grace to endure. And should we die? We do not die without hope. We graduate! Oh, how blessed is that hope.

B IS FOR BLESSED!

I pray for divine health for you, Dear Reader. I pray for your supernatural protection. I pray Psalm 91. In those words I find more protection than any quarantine could possibly offer.
